Waltham, MA, 5th September 2012; Mass Premier Soccer kicked off the 2012 / 2013 competitive calendar by participating in Labor Day Tournaments this past weekend.
Teams from all four regions took the field at the Aztec Tournament (Lancaster, MA), Stars Cup (MA), AC Milan Bandits Cup (Devens, MA) and Connecticut Classic (Waterford, CT) in the glorious sunshine to kick start the fall season.
“Labor Day weekend presents an opportunity for our teams to get together for the first time and participate in good competitive tournament action,” said MPS DOC Peter Bradley. “For many of our teams, this is the first time they take the field as a team and the past weekend marked the start of our full year competitive calendar. We are delighted to have had success for teams in all four regions.”
The MPS Bulldogs rounded off a positive weekend with the U11 Bulldogs winning the top bracket of the Stars Cup with a 3-1 win over NEFC. The boys, coached by Tim Mason, beat some very good opposition en route to the final, where two goals from Gabriel Padilla set the foundation for the win. At the Aztecs Cup, Ed Jenkinson’s U10 Bulldogs came away with 4 wins out of 4, and the U13 Bulldogs, led by Pete Bradley, narrowly lost in the final 1-0 after some positive performances.
Further success was achieved in the Renegades program, with the U12 Renegades winning their bracket of the Aztecs Cup, beating Scorpions 4-0 in the final. It was a repeat of the final from 2011 as the U12 Lady Knights picked up back-to-back titles, coming through 2nd in their group they stepped up to the plate in grabbing a 2-0 win in the final. The U13 Knights were runners up in the Elite bracket as they transition from 8v8 to 11v11. All teams took away a lot of positives from their events as they prepare for the start of the NEP season.
