Waltham, MA, 19th July 2012; Twenty-seven young soccer players made the trip from Bermuda to Boston to spend a week on a residential camp, hosted by MPS coaching staff, and participate in the MPS Summer Showcase Tournament Series.
The camp was held at Mass Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, MA from Monday July 8th to Friday July 13th. The players were led through training sessions, provided by MPS coaching staff that covered technical and tactical aspects of the game, including goalkeeping, defensive positioning, attacking play and set pieces.
“It was a great week at camp and an exciting opportunity to bring together people from various soccer backgrounds and cultures” said Camp Director Matt Hardiman. “On a personal level it was a tremendous opportunity to train with the Bermudan team and to experience a different philosophy on how to play the game”.
The club then participated in the Summer Showcase tournament on Saturday 14th & Saturday 15th with the U14 age group representing North Village Community Club and a group of U10, U12 & U17 players representing the MPS Bulldogs & MPS Knights.
“On behalf of the Executive and Management of North Village Community Club, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to MPS for hosting and taking care of the boys during their tour” said NVCC Sports Chairperson Stephen “PJ” Coddington. He continued by saying that “Everyone is back on island, and all have expressed as having a great time. The coaching staff have all commented on the professionalism and organization that they experienced during the camp and the tournament”.
The club capped the trip by attending the New England Revolution vs Toronto FC at Gillette Stadium on the Saturday evening and then paid a visit to Six Flags Amusement Park on the Monday before flying home on Tuesday.
