MPS Qualify Four Teams for 2012 NPL Finals

Waltham, MA, 19th July 2012; The  U14, U15, U16 and U18 MPS Bulldogs were  victorious in the NEP/NPL Playoffs recently and will advance to the inaugural National Premier League (NPL) Champions Cup. The event is slated for July 27-31 at Waukegan Sports Park in Waukegan, IL.

To qualify for the finals, each team had to finish in the top four of their respective NEP divisions and then compete in a Final Four play-off format in order to win their place at the National Finals.

In the final games, the U14 Bulldogs defeated FC Stars of Mass 2-0, the U15 Bulldogs defeated NEFC Elite 5-2, the U16 Bulldogs defeated Western United FC 3-2 and the U18 Bulldogs beat Aztecs Soccer by a 4-1 score line.

MPS almost made it a clean sweep, however, the U13 Bulldogs narrowly missed out as they suffered the agony of losing in a PK shootout to Western United FC in the final game.

“This is the inaugural year of the NPL Champions Cup so we are looking forward to competing against some of the best soccer brands in the country, including NY Red Bulls and FC Dallas” said MPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley.  “We will have to be at our very best to be successful in Illinois and the players and coaches are relishing the challenge ahead”.
